              THE UNIQUE CHALLENGES & OPPORTUNITIES OF FRESHMAN YEAR

Freshman year is a big adjustment for teens as well as their parents. As teens grapple with mounting pressures, increased academic workload, and expanding social circles, it’s helpful if parents have thought ahead how they might deal with the wide range of issues they may soon be addressing -- the lure of alcohol and parties, marijuana/drugs, the ins and outs of current social media, healthy relationships/body image. B-PEN and the PTO addressed some of the unique challenges and opportunities BHS freshmen commonly face at a special Freshman Parent Meeting. Read the Parent Update here…

       UNDERSTANDING AND MANAGING YOUR JUNIOR'S STRESS -- AND YOUR OWN
The B-PEN/Junior Class PTO program for parents, “Understanding and Managing Your Junior’s Stress – and Your Own,” gathered representatives from BHS Peer Leaders, the dean’s team, and guidance, as well as experienced parents and Dr. Stephanie Corrado for a panel discussion and presentation on managing the often overwhelming pressures of junior year.  The presentation highlighted some effective strategies to maintain perspective and included information on the physiology of stress and easy, effective relaxation techniques, as well as:
